Biography

Ruth (Toots) H. Thompson, 103, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Ruth was born October 30, 1906 in Brainerd to Christian & Hannah Albertson. She was married to Lewis Thompson in 1925. Lewis preceded her in death in 1982.
Ruth graduated from Brainerd High School and went 1 year to College in Duluth. After marrying Lewis they began farming near South Long Lake where she lived for about 80 years. Ruth was most proud of raising her family of 4 daughters & foster son Arthur. Arthur was killed in Vietnam in 1967.She also worked at Schaefer’s Market in the bakery for many years. During her life she & Lewis thoroughly enjoyed the family & family gatherings, farming, gardening, flowers, the church activities, their dogs & birds and caring for Shirley. She was a beautiful example of enjoying life, being positive, appreciating everyone & everything & having a strong faith and never complaining.
Ruth (Toots) is survived by daughters: Shirley Turner of Idaho; Betty (Carl) Sellon of Candby, Oregon; Donna (Stan) Carlson of Spokane, WA and Judy Eiler of Minneapolis.
Ruth (Toots) has 11 grandchildren; Ron, Dave (Paddy), & Dan Carlson all of Spokane, WA; Jeff Joki of Portland, OR; Bruce and Tim Joki both deceased. Linda (Gary) Market of Scottsdale, AZ; Ralph Turner, deceased; & Nancy Turner; Steve Turner of ND; Ruth Ann (Bob ) Higgs, Prior Lake, MN & Karen (Randy) Olstad of Moscow, ID
Great Grandchildren are Chris (Erica) Carlson, Lucy, Gretta & Burt Carlson, Hannah & Miles Carlson, August Joki, Megan, Whitney & Nolan Market, Brad (Pat) Turner & Mike (Tasha) Turner, Akela Pieron, Ryan & Jerid Olstad.
Great-Great-Grandchildren are Kylie Turner, Lucas & Nathan Carlson & Phoenix Pieron.
She is also survived by many wonderful nieces & nephews, cousins & friends.
She was also preceded in death by one son, her sisters Ella & Mattie (Nanna) & her brother Emil.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2010 11 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 10914 Five Mile Road in Brainerd with Pastor Bob Twiton officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Lunch will be served after the committal service. Visitation will be Monday, July 19, 2010 5-8 PM at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home & 1 hour prior to service.

Arrangements are with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Brainerd.
